Pebble Trays

This week, on Plant Tip Tuesday...

Our last reel about Calatheas prompted a lot of questions about the Pebble Trays we referenced, so we’re diving into the answers!

What is a pebble tray? It’s a cost-effective and esthetically-pleasing way to increase the ambient humidity around a plant.

The supplies required, include:

-A tray that is slightly wider in diameter than the pot of your plant

-Purchased or foraged stones to fill said tray

-And water!

If your plant has drainage holes, care should be taken to ensure the bottom of your plant is never sitting in water, as this could cause root rot. If the bottom of your pot is closed, you don’t need to consider this.

How does it work? Your plant sits above the water line, nestled on the bed of submerged pebbles. As the water evaporates, it provides consistent and localized humidity around the specific plant.

The frequency your pebble tray needs to be refilled will depend on the average temperature and relative humidity in your space.

Have you tried a pebble tray?
