This week, for Plant Tip Tuesday...
We’re talking about watering your houseplants!
Water is essential to all plants. It carries nutrients through the plant and keeps your plant upright and happy.
“How much do I water this plant?” is probably one of the hardest questions we get asked because unfortunately there is no precise amount to give.
There are many factors that determine how quickly your plants dry out. Some of these factors are the variety of plant, size and material of the container, light levels, and temperature of the space.
Our best advice is to learn about your plant and which environment it grows in naturally.
There are a lot of houseplants from tropical regions that get constant rain and have high humidity, therefore you would want to give small consistent waterings, and mist the plant if possible.
Some plants, like succulents and cacti, are native to arid regions so they have developed foliage that can withstand dry periods, and like to go on the dry side in between watering.
It's always best to direct your water to the edge of the container and avoid watering in the crown of the plant.
Remember that plants in lower light typically require less water because they are not growing as actively.
Happy Watering!
